This is a low key marathon, but man did I enjoy it. The course is very nice for a few reasons:
1) very few straightaways for miles. It seems like you are always turning, making it easy to stay engaged
2) quite a nice finishing 2 miles along the water
3) well organized
"No thrills" is what I'd call it, same day bib-pickup, no after party - just a good classic race.
A decent number of people participate, but expect to have more than half of them leave you at the 1/2 way mark. It can get a bit lonely on lap #2.
The run in 2023 was certainly a huge challenge, strong winds, cold, sleet/ice, and despite all that (and the hills), it was a wonderful experience.
Race Tips
Its been said already on a review here, but plan for the hills. The first lap of the 6 or so hills seemed managenable to me (one right before mile #8 is a bear), but the second lap they will test you.
Hills aside, be prepared for wind. It might have been just this year, but the wind off of the ocean from roughly mile 11 to mile 14/15 was very noticable and challenging. We had the added pleasure of having sleet come down sideways to contend with.
Park right on site, I'd suggest arriving around 645 to get the bib. Plenty of parking, porta potties (shoutout to the race director who actually waited an extra minute or two to make sure everyone was done before starting), and good organization.
Because the race starts at 8am, you can stay easily an hour away (I did) to save on a drive, and cost of a hotel. Plenty of options as the race is right off of I-95.

Review
Scenic course with amazing views of LI Sound. Volunteers were cheerful and friendly. Easy for family and friends to cheer as the course is like a figure 8 and they get to see you pass several times. White cotton T as a race shirt was disappointing.
Race Tips
Marathon is a double loop course with hills between mile 4-9 and 17-22. Need to increase pace on the flats to compensate for the hills.
