Hyannis Marathon

Hyannis, MA
Sunday, March 2, 2025

  5 Stars from 1 Reviews

Description

The Hyannis Marathon is a two loop course. The course is paved and mostly flat and gentle with a few rolling areas. The course is open to traffic.

The weather late February/early Spring weather in Hyannis can be unpredictable, so be prepared for snow, ice, or very cold weather (2015 race cancelled due to icy road conditions). With the typically low temperatures, the course can be fast if the weather is not too extreme.

Review

Ran at the Hyannis marathon in 2019, I found the course to be fairly flat, and with a temperature around 40, it feels like one of the first races of the year (in the boston area), that isn't flat out cold! Big parking area right across the street with plenty of space an hour before, and an indoor event hall to snack before going out to brave the cold. Regular water/gatorade stops and with the occasional banana, largest gap between stations was about 3 miles, usually about mile between (especially on the back stretch). Was very windy and rainy in 2019 and i ran in a jacket and gloves to stay warm, but given the bad weather luck, it was really a pleasure. Nice run along quiet roads and a beach, only one stretch without about 3 miles to go where you're running along a busier street on the sidewalk. Course is 2 13 miles loops, so you've got a lot of half-marathoners as company for the first half (don't get excited!), and then quieter small groups for the next 13.

Race Tips

Don't go out to fast! The half marathoners might trick you here. Fairly flat, so you could take however you want. 2 13 mile loops, I would pack up with other marathoners and use half marathoners as extra company :)

Logistical Tips (Hotels, Restaurants, Parking, Discounts, etc.)

On race day, show up at the main building an hour before to collect your bib if you haven't already, eat a bagel or fruit as you desire (long race ahead of you). There's a really long line for the ladies bathroom though, be warned (none really for the men's as usual). Big gravelly parking lot shared by multiple stores across the street is open for you and they direct you
